Every year, members of the Southport & District Amateur Radio Club collect to take part in the Radio Society of Great Britain’s (RSGB’s) VHF National Field Day contest.
The contest starts mid-way through Saturday afternoon, finishing twenty-four hours later on the Sunday and is an excellent chance to learn more about amateur radio, building temporary radio stations, erecting antennas and contesting in general. There are always several experienced members present during the weekend to show you the ropes.
This particular contest is also a great opportunity to get to know other members of the Southport & District Amateur Radio Club better as you operate, dine and relax together.
This year’s contest takes place over the weekend of the 4th and 5th July. Once again we will be operating from the paddock of Don and Jackie who, whilst not amateur radio operators themselves, have very graciously allowed us to use their private dwelling for the operation of the station; we are extremely grateful to them.
We will be holding a preparation evening to get the paddock ready for operating. Please register on our event web site if you able to lend a hand and help use get the field ready. Any help, even if you’re not attending the contest itself, will be most welcome.
We will be on-site on Saturday morning from 09:00 to set up the tent, antennas, equipment and test. The contest starts at 15:00. If you are able to make the contest, please register your intention and, if you can only make it for a short while, select a time slot when you will be able to operate/log.
As this is a private property that we enjoy the use of, directions will be given to those who indicate they will be attending.
Please call in on 145.500MHz as you approach the house to cause the minimum of inconvenience to our hosts and to receive parking instructions.
