Amateur Radio Courses

The Southport & District Amateur Radio club runs several Foundation and Intermediate courses during the year and one Advanced examination.

Our training centre, conveniently located in Ormskirk close to main trunk roads, motorways and public transport, is light, modern and airy. We run our courses with a maximum of ten candidates to ensure a high tutor to student ratio; at most times there will be around five tutors present to answer any questions you may have and to help explain topics more clearly.

Select the type of course that you are interested in below for more details:

  • Foundation Course – the entry point in to the hobby. A short course followed by a simple test to ensure that you can operate radio transmitting equipment safely and within the technical guidelines laid down in the licence’s terms and conditions.
  • Intermediate Course – the second level that introduces the theories that make radio function together with some of the more practical skills that enable you to build and test your own equipment.
  • Advanced Examination – an examination only, no formal course though we do provide a web-based virtual learning environment that enables you to get support for your learning.
