Buddy Scheme

The Southport & District Amateur Radio Club runs a Buddy Scheme for newly licensed Amateur Radio operators. When you pass your Foundation Course we will allocate you a buddy within the club and the Buddy’s job is to help you through the first months in your hobby.

Buddies are experienced Amateur Radio operators who have, let’s face it, been around for a while. They will all be interested in different aspects of the hobby but, at the end of the day, all have one goal – the furtherance of the hobby and the desire to see newly licensed Amateur Radio operators flourish and, one day, become buddies to other operators.

Your Buddy will:

  • Be contactable by email
  • Answer your questions – you will have lots
  • Talk with you on the air to help build your confidence
  • Show you where to get the information you require
  • Make recommendations on how to set-up and operate your stations
  • Meet with you once a month to give practical help were possible
  • Be your friendly face at club meetings and events – it’s always difficult coming to club meetings when you don’t know anyone

If you’re a member of the club and would like to volunteer to become a Buddy then please contact us as soon as possible.
