One week we're celebrating the return of one of our favourite Amateur Radio rallies and then the next we're sadly reporting that one of the country' best Amateur Radio rallies has been cancelled.
The Elvaston Castle Radio Rally, held mid-June in Derbyshire, is one of the UK's BIG radio rallies and sees visitors pour in from all over the country as it is one of the few that is accessible (within a couple of hours) of most of the population. The event was a family favourite too as it was one of the few events that catered for everyone - whilst Dad was in the 'technology' tents, Mum could stroll around the craft tent, whilst the kinds were entertained by none other than the great Mr Punch and Mrs Judy.
Spiralling costs, falling attendance and fewer people being available to help organise it are cited as the main reasons for the event's cancellation. This is a great shame and we're sure that it will be missed by a great number of Amateur Radio operators.
