Members of the Southport & District Amateur Radio Club joined the churches of Ormskirk on Saturday (28th June, 2008) in Corononation Park, Ormskirk, for the Park Praise Fun Day.

Operating their special event station as GB7PPF the club worked stations on both HF and VHF, though propagation conditions limited most HF contacts to Central Europe (Germany) and the South of England.

Many of the club's new M3 licensed members assisted with the event and this was great to see as it made the whole day a totally enjoyable experience for all involved.

As well as operating the stations several members worked hard to raise funds for the North West Air Ambulance. A draw was held for a top prize of a £200 web site (donated by dynanti) with lots of runners up prizes (donated by Icom, Kenwood and members of the club) being available and a 'guess the number of resistors in the jar' competition was run. During the day the club raised £65 - a great effort by all.

This was one of the club's biggest and most high profile special events and plenty of interest was shown by visitors to the fun day. Contact was made with existing licensees and other members of the public who showed great interest - including the local Scout group.

Derek Hughes, Chairman of the Club, thought the day went very well and would like to thank all those who came along to lend their support.

The club is in action again next week with their annual special event station, GB5BDS, at Bishop David Sheppard School's Summer Fair in Southport.
