Primary School Summer Fair
Bishop David Sheppard Primary School, or BDS as it is affectionately known in the area, is a small school of about 350 students located towards the Northern end of Southport, close to one of the town's most controversial landmarks, the infamous Gas Tower.
The Southport & District Amateur Radio Club is indebted to the school for allowing us to use their building several times a year for the running of our Amateur Radio Courses. In return, we present 'An Introduction to Radio Communictions' to the Year 6 pupils during National Science and Engineering Week (NSEW) in March and run a special event station during the school's Summer Fair in July. The GB5BDS callsign is active during both events.

The summer fair is normally held on the first Saturday of July and this has seen us endure excessive heat and unbelievable rainfall in past years. However, our efforts at the school always go rewarded as we see many young folk experience radio communications first hand. We have also picked up some candidates for our courses from the special event station.
In 2008, the Southport & District Amateur Radio Club was awarded the Friends of BDS Cup in recognition of the work we do for the school.
