Park Praise Fund Day special event station
This is a new special event station for the Southport & District Amateur Radio Club and was run between 10:30 and 15:30 on Saturday, 28 June 2008.
The Park Praise Fun Day, opened by Rosie Cooper MP, was a large community event that took place right in the middle of Ormskirk, at Coronation Park. Organised by Churches Together in Ormskirk, there was a programme of music, drama and other items at the Bandstand throughout the day with local schools and youth groups. Arranged around the bandstand were a wide range of stands housing attractions appealing to all ages, together with exhibitions from local businesses and organisations (including the Southport & District Amateur Radio Club and the North & West Wales Christian Motorcycle Association).

Also in attendance were the Town Crier, the Lancashire Police Force, Lancashire Fire & Rescue Service and the Red Cross.
Every organisation attending was encouraged to do something to raise money for the North West Air Ambulance, and all profits from the event were donated too. The club members responded well and donated lots of prizes for a raffle which ultimately raised £120.

This was a great opportunity to present Amateur Radio to the populous of Ormskirk, being so close to the main shopping area and car parks on a busy Saturday, which is of course also Market Day, and we weren't disappointed. It was also great to see many of our newly licensed Foundation class Radio Amateurs helping out - it made it a great day for all involved. We have to say, the weather helped - for once it wasn't raining.
