National Science & Engineering Week (NSEW)
National Science & Engineering Week (NSEW) is a ten day celebration of science, engineering and technology which runs toawards the middle of March each year. In 2008 around 1.4 million people attended over 3,500 events across the UK and it is the event co-ordinator's aim to make it even bigger year-on-year!
In the UK, we don’t value science, technology, or engineering nearly as much as we should. It lives beneath the surface of everything we touch and taste. It is the key to our prosperity, one of the driving forces of our economy and it creates thousands of jobs that keep Britain at the leading edge. National Science and Engineering Week aims to show people how science, engineering and technology benefits our everyday lives, is crucial in strengthening the UK economy and meets some of the major challenges of our time.
Our 'Introduction to Radio Communications' presentation for NSEW
The Southport & District Amateur Radio Club has an 'Introduction to Radio Communication' presentation which has been tried, tested and honed over several years. It gets people to think about radio communication, how it works and how it can be used, through a series of hands-on experiences. Those attending get to communicate over the air using real radios and the phonetic alphabet, use Morse code and learn why it such a special mode of communication and talk to other Amateur Radio operators many miles away (even on the other side of the world if conditions permit) using an Amateur Radio special event station that we establish especially for your event.
This presentation is ideal for schools and colleges who would like us to be present for a whole day, but could also be adapted to feature in an exhibition type environment where people can just drop in for five or ten minutes.
